It would be interesting to see what a religious forum would say about this subject. Note, supporters of the policy say it's like an "All you can eat" buffet and not a crime.

Well it's partly true! Unlimited plans are usually available for shared hosting. And in shared hosting a single web server is shared by hundreds or maybe thousands og websites so it is profitable for the hosting company. But when your site gets popular they will force you to upgrade you plan.
